Overview

"Scan widgets" are a tool for self-employed people in the field of data protection to convert visitors to their own website into new customers. It is a website plugin provided by decareto that displays a form on your website for visitors, something like the following:

Once a URL has been entered, a scan is performed within a few seconds. To ensure that this reports a result as quickly as possible, an accelerated scan is carried out to determine how many cookies or external services requiring consent are loaded on the page without consent.

To request the full report, visitors must provide their contact details:

After submitting, a new website with the specified URL will be created in your account, a complete scan including subpages will be initiated and the contact details will be saved for you. You can then contact this interested company by telephone or e-mail.

This type of "lead generation" is highly effective, as the visitor has shown genuine interest and can now be converted into a new customer through appropriate advice.

Using widgets

You can create as many different scan widgets as you like, for example to support German and English versions of your website, or to place a widget on several landing pages.

To do this, open the "Scan widgets" item in the "Settings" menu.

Create and edit widgets

After creating the widget, you must first assign an internal name for the widget (element 1 in the screenshot) and the domain of the website on which it will be placed (2). By clicking on the copy field (3), you copy an HTML snippet to the clipboard, which must be integrated into the HTML code of the website - pass this on to the agency / developer.

In the pull-down menu (4), select whether the widget should check for and report problems with privacy, accessibility, or both.

In the pulldown (5), select the display language of the widget (German or English).

Since all text elements are configurable, you can overwrite the german or english text with any other language.

Configure texts and style

You can then configure the exact content and appearance of the widget. Depending on the widget language selected, the form fields contain German or English text suggestions, which you can overwrite as required.

Use a custom CSS

You can define your own CSS styles and use them to control the appearance of the input form for the website URL as well as for the contact data form. As this requires some technical understanding of web development, you should ideally consult a developer.

Costs for using the widget

The scan widget is available free of charge in all our plans. However, the plan must be large enough, as each new contact corresponds to the creation of a website in decareto.

Example: A Business plan allows the creation of 50 new websites per month. If the plan is used exclusively for lead generation using the scan widget, this corresponds to a cost of around €4 per lead.

Please contact us if you generate more than 100 such contacts per month via your website, we have special rates to reduce the cost per lead even further.

Notes on data protection

We store the data entered by visitors in encrypted form in the database. If you have not already done so, you should conclude a contract for commissioned data processing with us. Please contact us at support@decareto.de

In order to obtain consent to process the contact data of interested parties and to comply with your transparency obligation, we recommend the following procedure (this is not legal advice, please also contact a data protection consultant or lawyer):

• In addition to the other form fields to be displayed, select the “Consent Checkbox” element

• Link your privacy policy in the “HTML at Consent Checkbox” field and indicate your consent

You must include a section on the decareto scan widget in your privacy policy. Here is a suggested text:

We use a tool (“scan widget”) from decareto GmbH, Mittelweg 144, 20148 Hamburg, Germany, to check your website for data protection gaps on request and to contact you to transmit the results. We have concluded a contract with decareto for commissioned data processing. decareto stores your contact data (name, company name, email address, telephone number) for this purpose. The legal basis for this processing is consent pursuant to Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. a GDPR. You can revoke this consent at any time by sending an email to our data protection contact. Your data will be stored by decareto until we delete it, which we will do after 6 months at the latest.

Please note that decareto does not delete any data on its own initiative, you must delete the contact data yourself in accordance with your privacy policy.
